Twenty four games left for the Canadiens, beginning with Buffalo tonight. I’m tired of thinking that they’ll start winning next game, or the game after that. The curtain is closing and it’s time to show what they’re made of.
Players going throught the motions tonight? Hah! Anyone who doesn’t give their absolute all should be drawn and quartered. That means you, Scott Gomez, and you, Andrei Kostitsyn. And it means everyone. It’s not just another night in a long season anymore. It’s the 7th game of the Stanley Cup every night from here on in.
What am I talking about? I’m not saying anything new here, anything that everyone doesn’t already know. Well maybe Gomez might not get it but everyone else does, from you and me and Youppi and aircraft controllers and pole dancers and nuns and rabbis and Viggo Mortenson and George Stroumboulopoulos and deckhands on the Island Sky ferry and Dick Irvin and housekeepers at the Olive Devault nursing home and Mathieu Darche’s wife and Roch Carrier and Celine Dion and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the guys from Rush and the Trailer Park Boys and Rene Simard and Peter Mansbridge and my 91 year old dad and waitress Tammy at TC’s pub where they serve the coldest beer in town.
Pretty well everyone, I guess. Although Gomez might not.
